Searching for information on the Black, and associated families,of Cloghor, Enniskillen.
Acheson Black and his 2nd wife Jane Kelso were my great great grandparents, thier daughter Rebecca and her brother Francis emigrated to New Zealand. Rebecca was my great grandmother. I have full information about them as relates to New Zealand, but need confirmation of thier births etc.
Information about earlier genenerations is hard to find, I have some, but it is sparse, and anything about them is welcome.
Another brother went to the USA, the Pittsburg area of Pennsylvania and a good number of descendants live there. I have met some while on a visit to the States and was made very welcome. Here again any furthur information about them is welcome - William James Black m. Theresa Swyers.

Names searching: Nixon, Melarkey/Mullarky (and variant spellings), Bradburn, Levingston
Location: South Fermanagh, mostly Galloon and Clones parishes, and Co. Cavan.
Main interest: I am particularly keen to trace the parents and families of my great-grandfather Francis Nixon. Francis was born illegitimately to Robert Nixon, farmer, and Catherine Melarkey. He was baptised 9 August 1855 in the parish of Clones. The address given on the baptism record is Clonatty, Co. Fermanagh. Catherine Melarkey is recorded as Roman Catholic but Francis was CoI in adulthood (possibly his father's religion). I believe Robert Nixon was a landowner in Knockawaddy, Clones and had house, office and land in Clonumphry, Galloon.
I live in Wellington, New Zealand. Any help in solving this family history puzzle would be much appreciated.

Family names in Fermanagh are Million and Kerr. John Million and his wife Margaret Hamilton were tenant farmers in the townland of Leglehid, Innishmacsaint. They had 6 children: Patrick, Mary, Ann, John, Jane & James. The elder John died in 1830. Ann married Robert Kerr and they had 2 children born in Fermanagh: Jane & Andrew (c 1838 & 1840). They then moved to Stoneham Quebec along with Mary Million and her husband, Robert's brother Thomas. They ended up in Colborne Twp, Huron County, Ont. The rest of the Million family, including mother Margaret Hamilton, also emigrated there. Any info on these Kerrs (birthplace & parents unknown) or the Millions would be fabulous.

I am currently researching my family history and have roots in the Fermanagh, and Monaghan areas. If it is at all possible, I would also welcome any information about Bertie's father, Moses Robert Watson Gillespie,( who lived mainly in Ardstraw, Co. My research interests are National schools, 1850-1900 in south-east Fermanagh.
I am a mature student at Queens pursiung a part-time B.A. and need to research such schools in the Lisnaskea/Newtownbutler area for a QUB School of Education project.
I also have a personal interest; despite the current spelling of my surname, PRONI research of Galoon parish suggests that it was actually Barnwell in the 1880s and that James Barnwell buried in Newtownbutler cemetary may be my grand-uncle. My grandfather, Francis Joseph Barnwell/Barronwell, migrated from the Lisnaskea area to Belfast in the early 1900s.

Hi,
I am tracing my Irish roots. I found my grandfather, Thomas Morris was born in Fermanagh County but I am having a hard time finding my grandmother. Their marriage certificate states that she was from Antrim County but I have not been able to find her records. A researcher from Ireland found who she thought was Sarah Anderson in Tyrone County but the age was off by 7 or more years. I want to find my grandmother's birth records and become an Irish citizen. I am hoping someone can help me in my search as I appear to have hit a wall in finding information. Thank you very much.--Gail Barraco

John Coventry b. abt 1818 in Ireland, my great (3x) Grandfather came to live at Finch Twp, Stormont Co. Ontario Canada in about 1865 with his wife Elizabeth ?Bessie? Adams b. abt 1827 in Ireland. They came with their children William b. 1844, James Earl b. 5 Nov 1851, Elizabeth Annariah b. 12 Jul 1855, Elizabeth Lotty b. 1858, Mary Jane b. abt 1860, Ann b. 6 Dec 1865, Isabella b. 4 Jan 1866. All have birth locations of Ireland except Lotty whose death certificate shows she was born in Fermanagh Co. Ireland. These people for the next 100 years have a close relationship and are said to be cousins to anther Coventry family in a bordering Twp of Russel, Russel co. Ontario. William Coventry b. abt 1806, his wife Ellen F. Johnston b. abt 1816 and their children, Mary Jane b.14 Mar 1843, James Henry b. 31 Oct 1844, Elizabeth b. 17 Aug 1846, David b. 18 Mar 1852, William John b. abt 1854, Francis Abraham b. 5 Mar 1861 and Ellen b. 20 Apr 1861. All were born in Co. Donegal. This family emigrated abt 1853 and the children born after this were born in Canada. The children of these two families reloate to live near Briercrest Saskatchewan Canada and establish a School region called Coventry Settlement. The Griffith Valuation shows a John Coventry living at Glennagarran, Drumkeeran, Lurg,Fermanagh. I am not sure if this is my Grandfather or not. Another Coventry family (Moses and Thompson) is found at Grahamsland,Donaghmore,South Raphoe, Donegal. It is my understanding these Parishes are very close, although in neighboring parishes. The John Coventry in Drumkeeran has an Adams family living near them and the Moses and Thompson Coventrys living in Donaghmore have a Johnston living near them. I have never been able to prove a relationship between these families or prove exactly where they are from.

IRWIN, STOCKMAN
The family story is 3 Irwin brothers born in Scotland: James b 1791, Edward b 1792, John b 1794, married & had son John in Scotland. They emigrated to Ireland, supposedly Fermanagh. James emigrated to Canada & died, date unknown.
Edward remained in Ireland, as did John Sr. John Jr. married Debora Stockman in Ireland,& they emigrated to Canada in 1831 with children John, James, Francis, Margaret & William. I may have found them on a Quebec-Montreal steamer. They lived in Montreal 3 years, then to Ontario, living there till 1865, & emigrated to Honesdale, Wayne Co., Pennsylvania. John Jr. is supposed to have attended school in Ireland. He attended Wesleyan Methodist church in North America. His wife, Deborah Stockman, is a mystery. Any ideas, & suggestions are welcomed - I've yet to find ANY trace of them in Scotland or Ireland before 1831.

OLIVER, FITZPATRICK, TULLYNALOOB, PETTIGO
A Brief History of My Oliver Family in Tullynaloob, Fermanagh, and Ontario, Canada My great-great grandfather was John Oliver. He was born between April 16, 1836, and March 3, 1839, in Tullynaloob (various spellings exist), Fermanagh (this townland is just a few miles north of Pettigo, on the Donegal border). His father was George Oliver, and his mother was Catherine. John?s marriage certificate lists his father (George) as being deceased at the time of his marriage; therefore George must have died <May 13, 1858. There is a Geo. Oliver of Fermanagh, Drumkeeran, Tullynaloob, in the Tithe Applotment books for 1832; this is likely my gggGrandfather George. I estimate the date of birth for George as sometime before 1818, and my research indicates the Oliver family was in Tullynaloob since at least 1757. I believe George may have had several siblings: William (b. ~1811?) who I believe married Mary, Thomas (b. ~1807) who married Jane, Henry (b. ~1799) who married Elizabeth, Joseph (b. ~1811), and James who I believe married Anne. All of these names appear in various records concerning residents of Tullynaloob. I do not know where or when John was baptized. I checked baptism records for the Church of Ireland, Drumkeeren (Clogher), Co. Fermanagh, from 1801-1876, without luck. John had a brother, James, b. ~1830, who moved to Columbus, OH, where he was a porter at the Columbus Institute for the Blind. He died there in 1874. John married Elizabeth (Eliza) Fitzpatrick, May 13, 1858, in The Parish Church, Templecarne Rectory, Pettigo. John was 20 at the time, a farmer and a bachelor. Elizabeth is listed as age 19 and a spinster. She was born in Bannus, Templecarne Parish, Fermanagh, but her residence at the time of marriage was Fincashel, Templecarne. Her parents were Robert Fitzpatrick and Elizabeth Rynd, both residents of Fincashel. John and Eliza had 10 children in total, only one of whom was born in Fermanagh. That was George Fredrick, born Jun 10, 1859, in Tullynaloob. George F. was baptized July 3, 1859. George was my great-grandfather. John and Eliza may have left Ireland around 1860, arriving in Canada, where they lived the rest of their lives. I do not know how or exactly when they made the move from Ireland. According to a letter written to my father by a cousin in Canada, John?s son Geo Fredrick (and therefore presumably John and Elizabeth) landed in Halifax, NS, in August of 1859, at which time George was 2 months old. They ultimately arrived in St. Thomas around 1872, but the family, incorrectly listed as ?Olliver?, appears in the 1871 census for Blanchard Township (just north of St. Thomas), Several of their children were born in Blanchard Township so I believe they lived there from ~1862-1872. While John?s marriage certificate indicates he was a farmer, census and other records list him as a pump maker from at least 1872. From 1872 until his death, John and his family lived in St. Thomas. John and Liza?s children were George Fredrick (b. Fermanagh), Elizabeth Jane, Ellen (Nellie), Mary Ann (Minnie), John James, Robert, Joseph William, Hugh Beaty, Catherine, and Edward Musgrove. There is an interesting alternative to the above summary. The 1901 Canadian census lists John Oliver b. 3/3/1839, emigrating to St. Thomas in 1847. This would be 11y before John and Eliza were married. This could be an error by the original record taker, or John could have gone to Canada, possibly with his brother James and other relatives, in 1847. In this scenario, John would have then returned to Fermanagh, married Eliza, had their first child (George Fredrick), then returned to Canada around 1860. Where the family lived from 1860 until arrival in Blanchard Township, Ont., is unknown. I can find no record of their having lived in Ohio, where his brother James resided (and many other Oliver families, especially in Meigsville and McConnellsville, both in Morgan Co.). George Fredrick of Tullynaloob married Drusilla Smith in St. Thomas in 1881, and they had 5 children: Mary (Min), George Frederick II, Truman Earl, Elmore, and Margaret, all born in St. Thomas. Truman was my grandfather. John was in the Thomas Williams Home (a medical/old age institution) for several years, where he died in April of 1907. He is buried at St. Thomas Cemetery. According to a death notice in the St. Thomas paper, he was ?One of the oldest and in years gone by one of the best known residents of this city. He was a prominent Orangeman and headed the procession on July 12th riding a grey horse?. Eliza continued to reside in St. Thomas until her death in November of 1932. She is buried next to John. Truman married Rose Hulbert, left St. Thomas for Detroit, and had two sons, Truman E. Jr., and Myles Standish. Myles, also born in Detroit, was my father. I was born in Wisconsin in 1946, and have three children (William, Devon, and Steven) and now three grandchildren (Max, Oliver, and Jack).

John, Margaret Anne, Elizabeth, Mary Anne, Robert, Eliza Jane & Thomas) on church parish record but not James, eldest(b.1845) who married Mary Graham 1866(Enniskillen). Their names are all spelled Johnston. After they emigrated to Lancashire(after 1862), then the US (most of them),their name is spelled Johnson. Did they change the spelling after leaving Ireland or was spelling not important? Am now looking for Wm's marriage to Ann ??? (1840-45) and marriage of his parents, also Wm.& ??? Also trying to find Margaret Anne (eldest daughter) who married Robert Mitchell(born in N.Ireland)Feb.10, 1873 in St. Helen's, Lancs. and stayed. Can't find her after 1911 in Lancs. COULTER-HENDERSON: John Coulter, a weaver from Maguiresbridge, Enniskillen married Jane Henderson 31 Jan 1839. They had a daughter Ann, born 7 Jul 1840. They emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1841. They had 3 more children here, and either Mary, Anne or Elizabeth Henderson was/were a witness at their baptisms. We believe they were either a mother and sisters to Jane or all sisters. John died in Terra Cotta, ON 29 Sep 1900 at 81 yrs old. However John's daughter Mary told her husband, ""There was much uncertainty about my father's age. He was seven years older than was generally reported and believed he had good reason to be secretive about his life."

Seeking info on Richard and Christianne Johnston, both born in Ireland and likely in Fermanagh. Richard was born in either 1786 or 1791 depending on which Ontario census records you look at. Likewise, Richard's wife Christianne (spelled in some Ontario records as Christiaan, Christan or Cristiana) was born in either 1781 or 1786.
Their son John (my gggrandfather) WAS born in Fermanagh around 1818. His brother Robert was born July 16, 1820 or 1821, also in Ireland and likely in Fermanagh.
Richard, Christianne, John and Robert emigrated to Canada in 1840, settling initially in Reach Township, Ontario County and/or Cartwright Township, Durham County, and subsequently in Wallace Township, Perth County in 1854. A James Johnston settled on lands immediately adjacent to Richard and Robert in Wallace Township in the same year and he may either have been another son of Richard and Christianne, or perhaps a younger brother to Richard.
John married one Mary Anne Rogers, born in Ireland about 1813. They were probably married in Ontario, around 1845. Robert married Ann Martin, also born in Ireland, about 1867.
I would dearly love to know where in Fermanagh these Johnstons came from.

I have ran into a block with my research on my family. I am trying to find my forth great grandfather, Robert Jackson. His wife and parents are unknown. He was born abt 1769 in Ireland, I am assuming in or around Belturbest Cavan. I know he had one son, John who was born 20 July 1797 in Cavan. Robert had a sister named Leisha who was married to Henry Moore and they had a son born in Belturbest Cavan. Robert also had two younger brothers, Micheal who was married to Ellen Baker, they had four children one of who was born in Belturbest Cavan and in Fermanagh. Roberts second brother Henry is said to be from Fermanagh and was born abt 1781, he was married to Jane Galloway, they had eight children all born in Fermanagh but once again I do not know exactly where. Henry was also a lawyer in Fermanagh, would this give any kind of clues to where they might be from? They all came to Canada in 1819 and 1820 to start homestead in Emily Ontario with their family's.
If anyone could give me any suggestions on how I might be able to find information for that time period I would be very grateful. I also have a family tree on Ancestry.ca if anyone is interested to see what I have so far. Thank-you for you time.

I am interested in Family history, we are from Drumbad, Fermanagh, which I understand is at Lough Navar on a hill top; our family having left at the time of,or just before, the first great famine for North America. We were leather workers and shoemakers by trade, according to records and verbal family history.
Our family have rarely returned, last summer myself and younger brother visited the area briefly, the first time in two generations.
I am an architect by training, and have a background in archaeology, and indeed my group went on to dig at Troy , which again is a hill top site.
I am a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and the Royal Society of Arts and Science in London, and other groups in North America.
Any assistance and access to your information would be invaluable.
Best Regards
Kevin

Lafferty's from Kesh and Ederny
Hello from Australia,
I am researching my Lafferty ancestors - Terence, my ggg grandfather, lived in Ederny and Kesh, but following Patrick's (my gg grandfather) immigration to Australia in the 1860s connection to his family appears to have ceased. It would be great to obtain information on the old Lafferty's of Kesh and Ederny. Patrick's brothers, Bernard and James remained in Fermanagh and apparently the old Lafferty's (Terence and Mary) are buried in a family plot in Kesh, however, this has been difficult to confirm.
Thank you.

Children of Maxwell Armstrong and Elizabeth Moore baptized (source LDS film #0897416) in townland of Lisrace, Clones, Co. Fermanagh between 1796 and 1816, most had emigrated to Canada by 1847.
Surnames used as forenames were Johnston, Irwin and Buchanan. Christopher m. Forster 1834, Thomas m. Blakely 1843, others married in Canada.
I have been unable to find birth or marriage of Maxwell, though he is recorded in Flax Seed Registry 1794 and Flax Seed Growers' List 1796 in Lisrace.
He was b. ca. 1774, possibly son of John Armstrong and Elizabeth Maxwell Buchanan, m. ca. 1794, d. Lisrace 1820, aged 46.

Michael remarried in c 1896 a Mary Maguire (dau of Denis Maguire) of Rogagh. They had 2 daughters Susan 1896 and Teresa 1898 (died aged 7 months) - In 1903 Michael remarried again (Mary Ann McGoldrick dau of Charles McGoldrick Pettigo) so I assume 2nd wife died between Mar 1901 and mar 1903 (she was alive in 1901 census). At 1911 census there were 3 children from 3rd marriage Michael Jr 1907, Kathleen 1908 and Elizabeth 1910. There may have been subsequent children. My Gt Grandfather died in 1943 and is buried with his son John and daughter Kathleen (Kate) in Garisson. He was a widower again on his death cert. My grandmother never spoke of her half siblings but remained close to her full siblings all her life she was 97 when she died. She married a Patrick Joseph Maguire presumably c 1920- They had one child (my father Michael Joseph born in Dublin 23/2/21)- The story goes her husband died c 1922/23 and there may have been a civil war connection.I can find no record of a marriage and no obvious record of Patrick's death. Both she and my father are long deceased and so I am at a brick wall given Patrick Maguire is such a common name. I was hoping to make a connection with family in Fermanagh who might remember or have heard something. John Dolan married Bella McGonigle and they lived in Caran West until mid 1970's. They had a daughter Ailish / eilish who married John Curran of Boho- I believe he is deceased however I was hoping to make contact with other members of the family- any ideas where to start.
The other info I would love to get is : What became of Susan? What became of Michael jr? Elizabeth (Lizzy) married James McGarrigle (I think) did they emigrate?
My Granny brought my father up in Glenties - Any ideas where I could get information on their time in Glenties eg electoral rolls or school roll books?
Going back to my Gt Grandfather he had 2 brothers that I'm aware of James and John and I think he also had a sister Mary- all born c 1860's. Their parents were Michael Dolan and Mary McGuire - Michael Snr was a widower in 1901 and died himself in 1904 aged 73. Any ideas where I could get details of where they are all buried. I have specific death dates for most - Am I correct thinking not all graves are clearly marked.
Any help greatly appreciated.

My great-grandfather, Patrick McBride, was 61, widowed and a RIC pensioner on the 1901 census..address,house 5, Drumbinnion, Moorefield, Co Tyrone. The family were in Co.Tyrone but as he was in the RIC the children were also born in Co. Leitrim and Co Fermanagh. I have just discovered the name of my great-grandmonther. She is Elizabeth Maguire. As the first two children were born in Co. Fermanagh, I am wondering if they met and married there. However, it appears to be very difficult to search Irish records. Hope you can assist. Cheers.

I have recently retired here in New Zealand and now with some time available (and interest) have begun researching my family history and today came across reference to an article titled Edward Cooneys Family History written by Seamus Mac Annaidh and published in The Fermanagh Miscellany 2. I am unable to read all of the article from the book on the web and it appears that the book is out of print and not available as an e-book.
My interest is that the Edward Cooney referred to is my grandfathers brother and hence the William Rutherford Cooney and Emily Carson Cooney referred to in the article are my great grand-parents. It is Williams father, also Edward, that I am now trying to trace, as well as any information about their relatives.
My hope thus is that Seamus or a member who knows him will read this and get in contact with me so that I can get a copy of all the information there is about my relatives.

James Flanagan (c1811-24 Oct 1881) farmer of North Toneel, Boho. Had a son Bernard (b 21 June 1850), son John (b c1848) dau Ellen (b c1853) who m Patrick McCaffry (1 May 1890). Bernard was my g grandfather, joined the RIC and moved around Ireland. He sent his daughter Bridget E from Dublin to live with his brother John in Legland when she was 7 years old, after Bernard's wife died in 1898. Any details on the history of this family welcome, also we would love to know if we still have relations in the Boho area!

My focus is the ELLIOTT families of Aghamuldowney Townland, Devenish and later Garrison Parish in County Fermanagh.
ELLIOTTs
James Elliott b abt 1759 was father to 7 children all born in the Townland of Aghamuldowney, then in Devenish Parish.
One son James b abt 1806 remained at home to farm.
In 1823, three Elliott siblings, Robert, Forbes (1802 twins) and sister Jane abt. 1780, emigrated to York Township, York County, Ontario.
Three other siblings later emigrated abt. 1829 to Goderich Twp, Huron County, Ontario. This group included Thomas 1796, George 1782 and Elizabeth 1811.
In 1841 James Jnr is in Aghamuldowney with wife Isabella, children James, Mary Anne and Eleanor. In 1862 the families in Agahmuldowney are James, John and Archibald.
1901 Aghamuldowney has Catherine (1829, aging mother), George 1856 and Dorinda, William 1853, John 1853 and Eliza.
1911 Aghamuldowney has George and John with families
My research aims to link the families together as far as possible and to paint a picture of the Aghamuldowney Elliotts into the 20th Century.

All families from Fermanagh or possibly Clones, Monaghan, moved to Canada between 1837 and 1855, possibly to Peterborough, Ontario, settling in Huron County, Ontario. Moved to Nebraska, USA in 1873. Sarah's mother is alleged to have first married Jarrett William Nesbitt IRVINE, bearing a son, Peter, and daughter, Elizabeth, who married James WELSH. Seeking Sarah and Christopher's parents, siblings, birthplace.

Mary (30yrs) and Margaret (25yrs) Taylor were sisters and they were both quite naughty in 1849 - they stole muslin. They were both housemaids and were tried in Fermanagh and sent to Grangegorman Prison to await transportation to Australia. They departed from Kingston (Ireland or England) and sailed on the ship "Duke of Cornwall" which arrived in Tasmania in October 1850.
Mary and Margaret had a sister Catherine - who had left for America.
Their brother's names were James and John.
Their parent's names were James and Catherine.
Their "Native Place" is listed as "Co. Fermanagh", no town was named.
From the convict records both girls were Roman Catholic.
Where are the family records held? In Dublin or Belfast?
I love getting new dates but I really enjoy finding the back story. Where did they live and can I see it on Google Maps, where did they work and what did they do, what church did they attend and why did they steal muslin!!
I'm hoping your records will help me find answers.
Thank you for the opportunity to search your records and network with others on a similar journey.

The Boyds of Wheathill killesher.
Hi Viola
Found great-great grandfather James Boyd's Marriage licence today at PRONI.
James Boyd married a Frances Kerr in March 1837 at Florencecourt. Witnesses John Kerr and Henry Crawford. First child recorded in Baptism books is William in 1839, but he must have died in infancy, as they had another male child whom they also named William in 1845 the Great-grandfather we have been following up. No record of the first William in the register of Florence court cemetery- they lived not far from Old Killesher graveyard- is it possible they buried the first William there?
